Pelletized Activated Carbon
Pelletized activated carbon is extruded into cylindrical form and then activated. Its regular geometry offers minimum resistance to gas flow, making it the standard fill of air and gas phase applications. The hard, glossy surface produces almost no dust in transport and filling.
Our pellets come in 3 mm and 4 mm diameters, produced to target CTC activity. KOH-impregnated versions are available for odor control duty.
When to Choose It
- You work in air or gas phase (VOC, odor, solvents)
- Fan energy and pressure drop matter in your operating costs
- Your facility is sensitive to dust release
- You clean biogas, flue gas or process air
Technical Specifications
| Parameter | Typical Value | Test Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Diameter | 3 mm / 4 mm | — |
| CTC activity | 55–65% | ASTM D3467 |
| Hardness | min 95% | ASTM D3802 |
| Iodine number | 950–1100 mg/g | ASTM D4607 |
| Moisture (as packed) | max 5% | ASTM D2867 |
| Bulk density | 380–450 kg/m³ | ASTM D2854 |
Values are typical production ranges; a batch analysis certificate ships with every order.
Applications
- Solvent vapor capture in paint booths and print houses
- Solvent recovery systems
- Odor control towers at treatment plants and sewers
- H2S and siloxane cleanup from biogas
- Industrial flue gas lines
- Cabin air filters (OEM)
Three rules of gas bed design
- Keep superficial velocity within 0.2–0.5 m/s; fast gas exits before meeting the carbon.
- Bring inlet humidity below 50% RH; water vapor competes with VOC for pores.
- Install a pre-filter for oil and particulates; a clogged pore never comes back.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose between 3 mm and 4 mm?
Choose 3 mm when kinetics are critical (low concentration, short contact); choose 4 mm when flow is high and pressure drop is the priority. Biogas and large odor towers are typical 4 mm territory.
Why does CTC activity matter?
CTC is the standard measure of gas-phase capacity. For demanding duty such as solvent recovery, above 60% is recommended; our data sheets report CTC per batch.
Plain or impregnated pellet for odor control?
If the target odor is H2S and mercaptans, KOH-impregnated pellet delivers many times the capacity; for mixed VOC odors plain pellet suffices. Share your gas composition and we will assess together.
